Kristall’s Polished Exports Leap In 2002

November 26, 02 by IDEX Online Newsroom

Kristall of Smolensk, Russia's largest diamond manufacturer, exported $220 million in cut diamonds in the first ten months of 2002, a 29.4 percent increase over the same period of 2001. Kristall is forecasting 2003 sales at more than $250 million.

In 2001 Kristall manufactured $220 million worth of cut diamonds, 8.3 percent less than in 2000. By the end of this year the company plans to reach a $240 million-$250 million output, a 9 to 13 percent increase.

Kristall is not showing much interest in following the downstream route. The company plans to sell only $2 million worth of Italian designed jewelry on the Russian market in 2002.
