Belgium Polished Exports Rise 14% in May

June 23, 08 by Edahn Golan

Belgium exported $1.1 billion worth of polished diamonds in May, a 14.1 percent year-over-year increase. The country, however, shipped a decreased volume of goods, 792,630 carats in total, a 3.97 percent decline. The average value of exports rose to $1,390 per carat.

The rise in exports was mostly boosted by large shipments to the U.S., which rose 15.6 percent to $414 million, most likely spurred by the JCK show in Las Vegas that opened May 30. These averaged $2,862 p/c.

Exports to Hong Kong during the month increased 17.6 percent to $100 million.

Imports by Belgium also grew by 14.1 percent to $980 million.
