Miners Strike at Rex Entering Third Week

The miners strike by the National Union of Mineworkers members at Rex Diamond Mining is concluding it’s second week today and an end is not in sight.
The strike by about 600 NUM members started on Wednesday, August 6 over demands to increase salaries by 20 percent. Rex management has offered NUM members a wage increase of 7 percent.
“Rex Diamond Mining is refusing to negotiate with us,” says NUM general secretary Gwede Montashe, “Rex is paying a lot less than other South African diamond miners like De Beers (…) and Trans Hex," he adds.
