Israelis Have High Expectations from HK Show

August 17, 10 by IDEX Online Staff Reporter

The Israeli diamond industry will have the largest presence it has ever had at the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, with 71 companies exhibiting in the Israel Diamond Pavilion and another 20 Israeli companies exhibiting in other locations at the show.

The high registration reflects an expectation among many Israeli companies that this year's show will be a strong one for loose diamond trading. In addition, the Israeli industry that has traditionally focused on the U.S. market is now seeking to diversify by expanding into the Far East.

Hong Kong is now Israel’s second largest market for polished diamonds representing 26 percent of total polished diamond exports in 2009.

“Now more than ever we see these markets as the direction of the future for Israeli diamond companies," said IDI Chairman Moti Ganz. IDI Managing Director Eli Avidar said that the institute was spearheading efforts to enhance Israeli Diamond Industry trade relations with the region.

The Israel Diamond Pavilion, organized by the Israel Diamond Institute Group of Companies (IDI), will include 11 companies exhibiting at the show for the first time. The Israel Diamond Pavilion will be located at the Asia World Expo, which will house all of the loose diamond and gemstone exhibitors.

The Hong Kong show will take place September 14 – 20.
