Four Arrested in Connection with the Antwerp Diamond Robbery
February 25, 03The Belgium public prosecutors office has confirmed to IDEX Online that four people were arrested in connection with the Antwerp diamond robbery last week.
The public prosecutors office would not confirm reports that the suspects are two couples, or disclose any other identifying information on the four at this point of the on-going investigation.
On Thursday the four will be brought to court to extend their arrest.
Last Monday morning, February 17, the weekend break-in was discovered. 123 of the 160 safes in the basement of the Grunberger building vault were broken into and the thieves took with them a cautiously estimated tens of millions of dollars in diamonds, cash and other valuables.
The theft, probably the biggest in Antwerp's history, shocked the international diamond industry, as many know and used the basement vault.
