Indian Polished Exports Continue to Rise
November 12, 03Indian diamantaires have exported an estimated $4.728 billion worth of polished diamonds during the April to October period, a 13.76% rise over the $4.156 billion exports during the same period last year.
October exports of cut and polished diamonds from the sub continent totaled 3,844,000 carats worth $874.14 million, compared to last October when India exported 3,709,000 carats at a value of $747.8 million, raising the average income per carat from $201.60 to $227.40.
India exported $106.89 million of rough diamonds compared to only $30.56 million during October 2002. But while in terms of value rough exports more then tripled, in terms of weight exports of rough diamonds rose from 5,317,000 carats to 7,001,000 carats, a 30 percent increase.
