The award is a piece of jewelry set with 12.16 carats of diamonds, hand crafted by Alisa Moussaieff, brings together diamond encrusted Comedy and Greek Tragedy theatrical masks.
Comedy’s eyes, set with rare natural brown diamonds, are smiling while Tragedy’s eyes, menacingly darker natural brown diamonds, are frowning. Together they look on the bright side surrounded by white marquise and brilliant cut diamonds.
Alisa Moussaieff expressed her delight at having been asked to create such a special gift. “Diamonds and film have gone hand in glove since cinema began and it seems quite perfect to award a unique performance with a diamond gift.”
A committee headed by Universal International Pictures CEO Stewart Till and Variety Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Peter Bart made the award to Johansson for her outstanding breakthrough in film in 2003.
