Israel to Open Trade Center in Mumbai
June 13, 04Israel is reportedly to open a trade center in Mumbai later this year in a move aimed at accelerating already burgeoning bilateral trade, including the diamond industry.
The trade center “will be the first facility of its kind in the country”, according to Israel’s ambassador to India, David Danieli.
The trade center will facilitate easier contact for businesspeople from both countries, a factor that has held back the expansion of trade.
A spokeswoman for Israel’s Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor was not immediately available for comment.
Israel-India trade is forecast to reach $2 billion this year, with diamonds, chemicals, information technology, telecom and agricultural products the main products traded.
Trade between the two countries has soared since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992.
