Harry Winston Holding Rough Tender to 'Check Prices'
March 17, 08 Harry Winston (formerly Aber) will hold a tender of its Diavik goods instead of selling them to regular clients. The company has done so a number of times in the past to check its asking prices against open bids. The tender is open to its regular buyers and probably to other companies as well. Such tenders always caused a certain level of discomfort among Harry Winston’s clients who fear high bids will be offered by other companies for so-called ‘political’ reasons. Regular clients are saying that high bids that do not reflect current market prices are made to gain favor and attention with the hope of getting additional goods or even a regular supply from the Canadian mine in the future. It is understood that each potential bidder was invited to the tender and allocated a four-hour appointment to view the goods. Viewing will take place this week and next week.
