Diavik 150 Dogsled Race Sponsored by Diavik Diamond Mines

Diavik Diamond Mines Inc, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto plc, and joint owner of the Diavik mine with Harry Winston Diamond Corporation, recently sponsored the Diavik 150 Canadian Championship Dog Derby, a dogsled race held annually in the area around Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

John Beck of Yellowknife, the race’s winner, finished ahead of 14 other teams and set a record time, completing the 241-km race in nine hours, 32 minutes and 43 seconds. Beck’s brother, Brent took second, and Wendy Davis, last year’s winner, finished third. Winners were awarded cash prizes.

The race was first held in 1955, organized by the NWT Fish and Game Association.
