Belarus Imports $7.7 Million in Rough
May 13, 08Imports of rough diamonds to Belarus in the first quarter of the year were 24,422.52 carats worth $7.7 million, averaging $315.28 per carat, the country’s ministry of finance announced as part of required periodical Kimberley Process Certificate report.
Belarus, not an immediate association to the diamond trade, has a number diamond polishing plants.
Exports of 1,159.04 carats carried a value of $2,100 the ministry states, and another 51.50 carats $16,900, for a total of 1210.54 carats worth $19,000, probably mostly industrial grade diamonds carrying an average value of $15.70 per carat.
Its rough diamond trading partners were the Russian Federation, Belgium, Israel and the U.S.
