From De Beers to Zale: Lennox to Head Retailer's Marketing
July 23, 09Richard A. Lennox has been appointed Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer of Zale, the company announced Wednesday. Lennox, 44, has recently left ad agency JWT where he headed the De Beers account.
Lennox will report to Zale CEO Neal Goldberg. “Richard's in-depth knowledge of the diamond industry and his broad experience in marketing and business development make him a great addition to our team,” said Goldberg, adding that Lennox will create a more “aspirational feel” for the company’s jewelry.
Goldberg is counting on Lennox’s experience in creating and leading De Beers generic advertising campaigns such as Right Hand Ring and Journey. He won eight Effie awards for marketing effectiveness and was recognized as one of Ad Age's fifty most influential US marketers in 2001 for these diamond jewelry campaigns.
In the past, the jewelry company found itself almost stumbling into the Holiday season, with out of style jewelry designs and last minute management changes that hurt its efforts to generate a large volume of sales at the critical retail period.
Goldberg is looking to revitalize the marketing department with this appointment, saying Lennox will “play a pivotal role in evolving our marketing program.”
