(IDEX Online News) - Large diamond deposits have been found in Binga, Masvingo along the highway to South Africa and Tsholotsho district in west Zimbabwe as a result of preliminary studies by the government, said Mines Minister Obert Mpofu to the Sunday Mail.
With the exception of diamonds mined by Rio Tinto at Murowa in the south of Zimbabwe, the rest of the country's production in the Marange region, known for its large and greenish goods, is blocked for export by the Kimberley Process.
Mpofu also told the newspaper that his ministry is currently considering candidates to head the proposed Zimbabwe Minerals Explorations Corporation (ZMEC).
