Diamonds Dominated Sotheby's Australia Jewelry Sale
December 07, 10(IDEX Online News) - Diamonds dominated the top ten lots of the recent jewelry sale at Sotheby's Australia. The top lot was a 10.58 carat diamond ring, which sold for $107,136, exceeding its high estimate of $80,000.
The fine diamond Riviera by Cartier, which received much interest throughout the viewing, sold for $103,565.
The auction totaled $1.5 million, with 77 percent of the 292 offered lots sold to buyers.
Isabelle Oliver, national head of jewels, said there was “a huge” turnout at the pre-show viewings in Melbourne and Sydney, followed by standing room only during the auction. “Our clients sought jewels and watches from the broad range on offer. It is a wonderful end to the year for the jewelry department and Sotheby’s,” Oliver added.
