The response to the awards idea was enthusiastic, with more than 500 applying companies and meeting the event criteria. The large number of entries testifies to the importance attached to winning the awards and is a clear symbol of the coalescing of the hitherto fragmented Indian jewelry retail industry into a more organized and unified body.
The GJF now not only tackles industry problems in a unified manner, it is able to speak with a single voice to the government on matters of policy and taxation that directly affect it.
From a retailer's perspective, the benefits of joining forces in one countrywide organization are becoming clearly seen. Further, with new technology and new sales formats, Indian retailers recognize the need for the support of a system that pools resources and is able to bring new ideas to what is otherwise a very traditional industry.
