Stacks of Cash: Two Charged with $1.7m Jewelry Raid
March 27, 25
(IDEX Online) - Two men in the US have been charged with a $1.7m sledgehammer raid on a jewelry store.
They are alleged to have taken pictures of themselves holding stacks of cash just hours later.
Kevin Williams, 26, and Byron Wilson, 24, both from New Jersey, allegedly smashed their way into Tarrytown Jewlers, in Hartsdale, New York, last December and made off with diamonds, other valuables and 70 Rolex watches.
The robbery took place just after 11am in broad daylight, leaving terrified customers hiding for safety.
The two accused men, and two co-conspirators, allegedly drove off in a stolen vehicle after the smash and grab robbery.
According to Matthew Podolsky, acting U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Williams later drove to New York City's Diamond District, and a few hours later he, Wilson and two co-conspirators took photographs of themselves holding large stacks of cash.
Williams and Wilson are charged with conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery and Hobbs Act robbery, each of which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
