The Botswana government reports that the Debswana Diamond Mining Company, part owner of De Beers, has established a trust fund for orphans in the Boteti Sub-district.

Leonard Makwinja, general manager of Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines, announced the fund following a sponsored 30km walk from Letlhakane to Orapa. The event raised 40,000 Botswana Pula ($6,280) for orphans in the sub-district.

Makwinja promises that the company will continue to setup projects that will benefit people in the area and intends to make the walk an annual event.
