Debswana Miners Slam Management
April 28, 03Executives at Botswana's diamond mining company, Debswana, have come under severe criticism for allegedly enriching themselves at the expense of the workers.
Workers at the Jwaneng mine have complained in a petition that last year's increments for managers were too huge compared to the percentage paid to union members. "We have witnessed a trend of huge sums of money in the form of bonuses paid to members of the management team to the exclusion of the general workforce," states the petition of the Botswana Mining Workers Union (BMWU).
The BMWU have urged authorities to take action within Debswana to ensure 'a fairer distribution of resources'.
