Lazare Kaplan to Market Angola's Rough

Lazare Kaplan International revealed yesterday (Monday) that it has signed a four year technical cooperation agreement regarding the marketing of rough diamonds with SODIAM, the government body that holds exclusive rights for developing and marketing Angola's diamonds.

"Now that peace has returned to Angola, the focus of the Angolan government is to give priority to policies that advance the economic and social development of the nation for the benefit of the people of Angola," the company says. 

Lazare Kaplan, a publicly traded diamond manufacturing company and a DTC Sightholder, is deepening its involvement in Africa. Only last November it signed a deal to run De Beers' NamGem, a Namibian polishing plant.

The company continues to see great potential in the Angolan diamond sector and is expecting the cooperation flowing from the agreement to "make an important and lasting contribution".
