CIBJO to Release Latest Pearl Book at Cape Town Congress
March 06, 07The much awaited Pearl Book is set to be unveiled at the upcoming World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) in Cape Town March 12-15. According to CIBJO Pearl Commission President Martin Coeroli, the Pearl Book, together with its Diamond and Colored Stone counterparts, are the jewelry industry's definitive set of standards for grading, methodology and nomenclature.
According to Coeroli, the great challenges facing the CIBJO Pearl Commission is informing its members about what is happening in the trade, particularly regarding new treatments as well as preventing illegal use of trade names.
In a special February 2007 report, President of CIBJO's Gemmological Commission H?ja Garcia-Guillerminet announced the establishment of the new commission whose primary goal will be to redefine a list of CIBJO-recognized laboratories.
Garcia-Guillerminet called this "a major evolution for CIBJO". The organization's 2006 Congress in Vancouver resolved that an annual fee will be charged to labs figuring on the list. CIBJO will also prepare its first ever Laboratory Conference, according to Garcia-Guillerminet, which will coincide with the organization's Congress in 2008.
