DTC Sightholder Dalumi and Italian fashion designer Gianfranco Ferre have teamed up to create an unusual item – a diamond studded top. The creation was debuted on the runway along with Ferre’s women’s collection for fall/winter 2007-2008, and was modeled by British singer Skin.
The top is covered by more than 900 diamonds mounted in white gold, with a total weight exceeding 300 carats and a retail price tag of 1 million Euro ($1.317 million).
The Gianfranco Ferre creative direction entrusted the top’s creation to a small team that concentrated exclusively on the diamond item with a single embroiderer responsible for hand sewing the diamonds onto the fabric.
“We are particularly proud of this project with Gianfranco Ferre,” said Dalumi Marketing and Business Development Director, Yuval Kemp. “We’ve produced something really unique and amazing, definitely able to make a lasting, irresistible, even inspirational impression.”
“Involving diamonds in the design process to this extent means creating pure beauty, capturing a sense of mystery, magic, dream and dimension,” said Gianfranco Ferre. “Working so with such an important ‘raw material’ gave me a clearly superlative chance to express my creativity. Seeking equipoise between the wealth of the diamonds and the sensation of lightness I wanted for my top, I had the preciousness of the gems define the creation’s very soul, the essence of its identity.”
Massimo Macchi, Gianfranco Ferre’s CEO said, that the partnership with Dalumi is a “further sign of our brand’s propensity for true excellence, evident here – as always – in a co-branding operation carried out at the highest level.” Macchi added, “While we surely embarked on this ‘adventure’ primarily for communication and promotional purposes, without a doubt the project’s distinctiveness and appeal form the ideal conditions for hypothesizing other similar efforts.”
