Few people walked the hall of the Macau show

The 237 exhibitors at the Macau Jewelry & Watch Fair 2009 jewelry show saw very little foot traffic at one of the industry’s first trade shows of the year. Hurt by a sharp downturn in the economy and limited cash flow, many registered exhibitors and visitors decided to pass on the show.

But even with a weak holiday season, exhibitors at the show expressed disappointment with the turn out and a number of participants said the show was not successful.

The Fair, which debuted in 2008 as a major new marketplace for all sectors of the global jewelry industry, planned to offer a wide range of jewelry products, including antique and estate jewelry, fine jewelry, diamonds, pearls, gemstones and related products and services.

Held at the Venetian Macau Convention and Exhibition Center, the show ends Sunday.
