India’s Polished Diamond Exports Fall 41% in January
February 16, 09India exported in January 2.641 million carats of polished diamonds with a declared value of $730.43 million, according to provisional data released Monday by the Gem & Jewellery Exports Promotion Council (GJEPC).
By value, these exports are a 41 percent year-over-year decline, underscoring the steep fall in diamond purchases in the global market.
Imports of polished diamonds also declined, totaling $482.34 million, 8.3 percent less than imported in January 2008. India’s net polished diamond trade therefore totaled $248.09 million.
