Mugabe: Diamond Revenues Should Go to the Country, Not Greedy People
August 03, 10Speaking at his sister’s funeral Monday, Mugabe took the opportunity to address economic issues the country is tackling. He said the greedy people should curb their drive for self-enrichment.
Recently the Kimberley Process (KP) approved exports of rough diamonds mined at the country’s Marange fields while a KP review mission visits the country to determine if Zimbabwe meets the minimum requirements set by the KP.
If it does, Zimbabwe will likely be approved to export the Marange goods freely.
According to a recently agreed plan, Zimbabwe is allowed to make two exports of Marange goods mined after May 28. One shipment will be made this month and the second in September.
In November, the KP will hold its annual meeting in Jerusalem.
