Indian to Stop Trade in Marange Diamonds
December 05, 10(IDEX Online News) - Acting on a notice from the Kimberly Process (KP) Chair Boaz Hirsch, the Indian government has directed that no trade in diamonds from Zimbabwe’s Marange fields be allowed under the Joint Work Plan (JWP) until an agreement can be reached.
An office memorandum sent to the Customs Department as well as the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), by the Commerce Department of India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, notes also that the KP Chair has requested participant countries to be vigilant and to notify the Chair of the KP’s Working Group on Monitoring (WGM) in case any “irregular” shipments of Marange diamonds is received.
