July 14, 11 by Edahn Golan
(IDEX Online News) – Antwerp's diamond community bought, and sold, much more rough than usual in June – as measured by value. Gross rough diamond exports increased by 34.4% to $1.61 billion compared to last year, but fell 13.3% to 11.9 million carats, based on figures released by the AWDC.
Imports have shown the same trend, rising 60.1% by value to $1.42 billion, while declining by 7.8% to 9 million carats.
Belgium's net exports were 2.9 million carats worth $195.6 million, increasing 26.4% and 28.6% respectively.
Rough diamond prices are continuously rising. In June, price increases have been most pronounced in Antwerp after DTC increased its prices on the type of goods bought by local Sightholders.
