Sarin Acquires New Diamond Imaging Technology
November 10, 11Based on this technology, Sarin will launch a new product, the D-Loupe system, a tool that will enhance the buyer’s ability to assess a diamond offered for sale, without having to have it in hand. This will significantly simplify the buying process and reduce costs, Sarin said Thursday.
Buying a polished diamond usually involves the desire to look at it. With the new system, a seller will submit the finished polished diamond to a Sarin service center for imaging and the resultant imagery will be archived on Sarin’s secured database.
The buyer will then be able to view the diamond from a multitude of angles and at two magnifications - 10x and an optional zoom to 20x. With this Sarin hopes that the need to ship a diamond – with the costs and time involved – will be greatly eliminated.
Under the terms of the transaction, Sarin Color will pay DSee Imaging an initial $750,000 in cash. In addition, Sarin will pay royalties from revenues, for a period of not less than seven years and up to the life of the patents, capped at $10 million.
Sarin expects to launch this new service in early 2012.
