Sarin Launches Diamond Assay Service
January 03, 12
(IDEX Online News) – Diamond toolmaker Sarin Technologies Ltd today (Tuesday) announced the launch of its new Diamond Assay Service (DAS). The online subscription service enables users to quickly verify if they have an authentic diamond, ascertain its geometric parameters and cut grade, issue printed reports and propose possible solutions for re-cutting and re-polishing.
DAS service subscribers will need to buy Sarin’s DiaScanTM S+, a mobile unit that plugs into any USB port of any desktop or laptop computer. This unit scans the diamond to derive a comprehensive analysis of the stone's unique characteristics, which are displayed on-screen.
The DAS system uses a number of grading systems, including AGS, GIA and HRD, to assess and grade the diamond, its properties and potential value if it undergoes re-cutting to a higher grade.
Users will pay a monthly subscription fee for the DAS service, with additional one-time charges for specific premium services such as printed reports or re-cut plans for optimal valuations.
“The DAS provides a unique service to diamond wholesalers, jewelry retailers and appraisers by which to evaluate the polished diamond that they are contemplating to buy or sell, and especially to those who wish to ascertain whether there is potential to improve the value of the diamond by re-cutting and re-polishing it,” said Uzi Levami, chief executive officer of Sarin.
“In an industry in which billions of dollars worth of polished diamonds are bought back from consumers wishing to upgrade their jewelry...we expect this service to be of significant importance to the retail trade in the U.S. and elsewhere,” he added.
In conjunction with the launch, Sarin announced it had signed an initial memorandum of understanding with AGS to jointly promote the DAS to AGS members. Using the DAS will allow AGS members access to AGS’ Performance Grading Software at a reduced price.
