(IDEX Online News) – A sharp increase in rough diamond imports into India in September. Imports nearly tripled compared to August, rising to $1.35 billion, up 158.1 percent. The figures also show an increase in the average price of imports, up 6.3 percent to $94.41 per carat (p/c) in September compared to August.
Year-over-year, rough diamond imports surged 44.1 percent, while the average value declined 19.3 percent, based on just released figures from the GJEPC.
The volume of imports was relatively high, 14.3 million carats, 142.7 percent more than imported in August of this year and 76.8 percent above imports in September 2011.
Rough diamond exports worth $157.8 million declined 1.4 percent year-over-year and 1.7 percent compared to August of this year.
