India's Polished Diamond Exports Surge 78%

(IDEX Online News) – India's polished diamond exporters had a great start to the New Year. Exports of polished diamonds surged in January, increasing 78 percent compared to December.

India exported $1.69 billion worth of polished diamonds in January, rising compared to December, but declining 7.3 percent compared to January 2012, according to preliminary figures released by GJEPC.

The volume of exports, 3.1 million carats, increased 54.2 percent compared to December 2012 and declined 10.8 percent year-over-year.

In January the average value of goods increased. Compared to December, prices were up 15.3 percent and by 3.9 percent compared to January of last year.

Polished diamond imports of $597.7 million increased 2.8 percent month-over-month, but fell 39 percent year-over-year.
