Alrosa Reports Diamond Output up 16% in Q2, 5% Rise in H1

(IDEX Online News) – Russian diamond mining monopoly Alrosa posted a 16-percent jump on the year in production to 9.627 million carats in the second quarter that ended on June 30.

For the first half of the year, production was 5 percent higher than in the year-earlier period at 17.105 million carats. Production for all of 2012 was 34.4 million carats.

Alrosa said that the rise in production was driven its Aikhal underground mine reaching its target capacity, as well as by its acquisition of OJSC Nizhne-Lenskoye and improved grades at the Jubilee pipe.
