GJF to Launch Smart ID Card for Jewelers

February 18, 15 by Danielle Max

(IDEX Online News) – The All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation (GJF) has announced the launch of a smart identity card for its members and their employees. The Jewellers Identity Card (JID) will be especially useful as a proof of identity for workers moving in between cities.

Haresh Soni, chairman of the GJF said the JID is particularly aimed at small jewelers to help them avoid complications when dealing with government authorities. “GJF’s JID is an ideal solution to the problems faced by the jewelry carriers with respect to establishing their bona fide identity and association with the gems and jewelry sector and the Federation,” he said.

“JID will also be useful for identification of the persons internally…whenever the person travels to another [entity] for giving or collecting the goods.”

According to the GJF, even when there are no identity issues, there have been cases when the authorities insist on opening bags containing jewelry or diamonds in public, putting the person transporting them at significant risk.

The government-supported JID should do away with these unnecessary stops.

GJF is a national trade federation for the promotion and growth of trade in gems and jewelry across India.
