February Rough Diamond Report

(IDEX Online News) – In February, there was a slight improvement in the rough diamond market compared to December and January.
The large producers continued to cut their prices, but the amount they are asking for the goods is still too high. Clear evidence of this is that the secondary market does not see the boxes as profitable. Rather than going for high premiums, which they do when prices are good, the amount at which the boxes are selling on the secondary market is just enough to cover the cost of the goods and allow for a long credit period.
In the “outside” market, prices stabilized after months of declines.
The general feeling is that there is no choice but to keep working, even though profits remain elusive and the market still has problems.
