Christie’s NY Auction Tops $49 Million
April 15, 15(IDEX Online News) – Christie’s New York Magnificent Jewels sale, which was held on April 14, realized $49.2 million dollars. The top lot in the sale was a 5.29 carat fancy intense purplish pink diamond, which was sold for $5.76 million, or $1.09 million per carat.
Another highlights of the sale, which was 77 percent sold by lot, was a four-strand natural colored pearl necklace, which sold for in excess of $5 million to a private buyer for Asia. The necklace set a world auction record price for a natural colored pearl necklace.
Also heading the list of top lots was pear-shaped D-color, potentially IF diamond pendant of 25.49 carats by Graff was bought for $3.4 million, or $134,000 per carat.
“Natural pearls achieved very strong prices and a world record $5 million was realized for a four-strand natural colored pearl necklace,” said Rahul Kadakia, International Head of Christie’s Jewelry. “There was spirited bidding for colored pink and blue diamonds along with all of the JAR creations offered in the auction.”
