Tiffany & Co. 2014 CSR Report Highlights Commitment to Sustainable Business

July 30, 15 by David Brummer

(IDEX Online News) – Tiffany & Co. has released fifth annual Corporate Responsibility Report. In the report, the company highlighted its commitment to practicing sustainable principles in all parts of its business.

Tiffany said that the report provides an overview of the company’s efforts to address environmental and social challenges, “with a focus on responsible mining and sourcing of raw materials, ranging from diamonds and gold to packaging.”

It highlighted the jewelry house’s efforts to reduce the impact of damaging mining practices in Yellowstone National Park and Bristol Bay, as well as taking an active role in those protecting human rights in Angola and Zimbabwe.

Tiffany said that it had made significant progress toward the development of a globally recognized standard for responsible mining. The company is a founding member of the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA) and has collaborated with industry representatives, NGOs, impacted communities and labor organizations to develop true third-party, multi-stakeholder standards for responsible mining.

The company said that it has developed direct relationships with many of the mines that supply them diamonds and precious stones. Tiffany reported that itreceives 100 percent of its rough diamonds either directly from a known mine or from suppliers with multiple known mines.

The report also highlights the development of the Tiffany Academy for Excellence and Diversity in Leadership, a talent pipeline and rotational development program to attract, retain and advance diverse, high-potential talent.

“At Tiffany we believe that sustainability is a critical element of our business strategy, and that sustainable principles should be practiced in every part of our company,” said Frédéric Cumenal, Tiffany & Co. CEO, who in his first month appointed the company’s first chief sustainability officer, Anisa Kamadoli Costa.
