Colombia to host First International Emerald Symposium
August 19, 15(IDEX Online News) – The Colombian Emerald Federation (Fedesmeraldas) is hosting the first International Emerald Symposium in Bogotá. The event will address the challenges and opportunities facing the emerald industry, including resource management, manufacturing, treatments, certification, nomenclature, technology, consumer education and branding.
The symposium will mark the first time that producer countries have come together at a high-level international gathering to address issues relating to the emerald business.
The event is supported by all of Colombia’s emerald-related bodies, as well as the Ministry of Mines and Energy, and will include delegations from governments and the private sector of Zambia, Afghanistan and Brazil as well as international trade organization such as the ICA, AGTA CIBJO, GIA and IBGM.
Speakers include Christopher B. Yaluma, Minister of Mines from Zambia; Gemfields executive director Sean Giltbertson and Muzo Emerald mining CTT MTC representative Charles Burgess.
The Symposium will take place from October 13-15.
