Lucapa Potentially Honing in on Primary Diamond Source at Lulo Project
September 03, 15(IDEX Online News) – Lucapa has announced the discovery of yet more large, diamonds from its Lulo diamond project in Angola. Mining Area 8 has yielded stones weighing 37.28 carats, 17.5 carats 14.69 carats and 11 carats. In addition, a light pink diamond has also been uncovered.
The company said the consistent recovery of large special diamonds from this area further indicates that it is closing in on the potential primary sources of these diamonds, with the E259 kimberlite target of special interest.
The large diamonds found in the area are irregular in shape and have sharp, jagged edges, which indicate they have not traveled far from their primary kimberlite source. In addition, the company has found kimberlite indicator minerals, including garnets and ilmenites, in the area.
Lucapa said nine specials (diamonds above 10.8 carats) were recovered during the first two weeks of mining in Area 8.
