JA Holds New York GEM Awards Ceremony
January 12, 16(IDEX Online News) – Joe Thompson, editor-in-chief of WatchTime magazine received a lifetime achievement award at the recent Jewelers of America (JA) GEM Awards in New York.
Thompson’s award for contributions to the watch industry was presented by Movado chairman and CEO Efraim Grinberg. “The watch thing for sure still remains imminently interesting,” said Thompson. “There are more people today interested in watches than there has ever been in my entire career.”
Other award winners included the GEM Award for Media Excellence presented to JCK News Director Rob Bates, who won ahead of Kyle Anderson and Rachel Garrahan.
Cartier received the GEM Award for Watch Design, defeating the other nominees Piaget and Roger Dubuis.
The GEM Award for Jewelry Design was presented to Temple St. Clair, whose 2015 design achievements included the launch of her Wings of Desire and the debut of Mythical Creatures at Les Arts Decoratifs. The other nominees were Caroline Scheufele, co-president and artistic director of Chopard and Sevan Bicakci.
The GEM Awards recognize the achievements of individuals and companies whose work raises the visibility and status of fine jewelry and watches.
