Rio Tinto Appoints New Diamonds MD
January 18, 16(IDEX Online News) – Rio Tinto today (Monday) announced that Jean-Marc Lieberherr, managing director of its Diamonds business is to leave the company. He will be replaced by Simon Trott, managing director of Rio Tinto’s salt and uranium group.
Lieberherr managed the Diamonds group for more than two years and was with the mining company for 10 years.
Trott has more than 18 years’ experience in the mining industry. “I am delighted to lead Rio Tinto’s high-quality global Diamonds business and thank Jean-Marc for his contribution in setting up the business for future success. The market fundamentals for diamonds are very positive and we are well placed to continue to deliver value to all our stakeholders,” said Trott.
Despite a restructuring of the Diamonds and Mineral group, chief executive Alan Davies said there was no change in the company’s commitment to the diamond industry.
