FTC Extends Deadline Jewelry Guides Review After JVC Request
March 03, 16(IDEX Online News) – The Federal Trade Commission has acquiesced to a Jewelers’ Vigilance Committee request to extend the deadline to file comments about the latest proposed changes to its Jewelry Guides.
The original filing date of April 4 has been extended to June 3.
The FTC has listed 75 questions to which it requires answers, with the resultant information potentially informing its decision on whether to alter the Jewelry Guides.
The process of revising the guides began in 2012, when trade associations filed their first suggested changes. A coalition of industry associates has submitted two further rounds of written submissions and hundreds of individual industry members have separately filed comments.
The Jewelry Guides (formally, the “Guides for the Jewelry, Precious Metals, and Pewter Industries”) explain to businesses how to avoid making deceptive claims about precious metal, pewter, diamond, gemstone, and pearl products, including what types of disclosures are needed, according to the FTC website.
