Twin Hong Kong Jewelry Shows Attract 5.4% Increase in Participation
March 10, 16(IDEX Online News) – The recently concluded Third Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem and Pearl Show and 33rd Hong Kong Jewelry Show featured more than 4,380 exhibitors from 54 countries and regions. The shows attracted 80,000 buyers from over 147 countries and regions – a 5.4 percent increase.
The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), which organized both events, said that more than 31,000 buyers attended the International Diamond, Gem and Pearl Show and more than 49,000 were in attendance at the International Jewelry Show.
The development council conducted a survey at the shows to gauge buyers and exhibitors’ views on market prospects, products and industry trends. The results showed that 47 percent of respondents said that business would be steady in 2016, 15 percent expected an increase in trade and 38 percent predicted a decline in sales.
With regard to product materials, more than half (54 percent) of respondents expressed that diamonds were their preferred choice. There was also positive sentiment toward fashion jewelry, precious jewelry and jewelry for weddings and special occasions.
“Despite global economic challenges, the two shows continued to attract local and overseas buyers,” said HKTDC deputy executive director Benjamin Chau. “This demonstrates the international significance of the two shows, which form the world’s largest jewellery marketplace, reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as a proven global sourcing hub for the industry.”
