(IDEX Online News) – The De Beers Group of Companies recently launched its 2016 Shining Light Awards: A De Beers Young Diamond Jewelry Design Awards in Windhoek, Namibia.
The theme of this year’s awards is “Protecting Nature’s Beauty,” a reminder of the fragility of the earth’s finite resources. The Shining Light Awards are open to all aspiring jewelry design students across Botswana, Namibia and South Africa, and finalists will receive business development skills in the areas of jewelry design, manufacturing, sales and marketing.
The competition has in recent years been seen as a gateway for young designers to gain access to the global diamond jewelry market. The award’s 2015 brief was to encourage designers to move away from elaborate diamond pieces to more commercially-viable pieces.
De Beers jewelry brand Forevermark is one of the supporters of the awards. “Forevermark is proud to support the Shining Light Awards, nurturing talent and developing the creativity of the new generation growing up in the countries from where our most beautiful diamonds come from,” said executive vice president marketing De Beers and Forevermark CEO Stephen Lussier.
