January 09, 20(IDEX Online) - A 117-carat diamond has been recovered Lulo alluvial mine in Angola. This is the 14th 100+ carat stone found at the mine. The diamond was among the specials (+10.8 carat diamonds) recovered from Mining Block 19. This area is located between the prolific Mining Blocks 6 and 8, which have produced 12 of the +100 carat diamonds found at the mine, including the country's biggest recorded gem - the 404-carat 4th February Stone, which sold for $16 million in 2016. "The recovery of this gem-quality 117-carat diamond represents a positive start for Lulo in 2020 as we continue rolling out our plans to increase production and revenues this year," said Stephen Wetherall, managing director of Lucapa, which operates the mine and owns it with Empresa Nacional de Diamantes E.P. ("Endiama") and Rosas & Petalas. Lucapa recently reported that diamonds from Lulo sold for an average of $1,127-per carat in 2019.
