Diamond Foundry Buys German Lab Grown Firm

November 22, 22 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - Diamond Foundry, which counts Leonardo DiCaprio among its high-profile backers, has bought a German lab grown company for an undisclosed sum.

Augsburg Diamond Technology, also known as Audiatec, makes diamond wafers for jewelry and manufacturing.

"We had a good feeling about a possible cooperation with Diamond Foundry right from the first talks," said Audiatec's CEO Dr. Stefan Gsell in a statement.

"In the past, with our revolutionary process, we laid the foundation for synthesizing diamond reliably and over a large area. We are therefore looking forward to working together and further developing the process for synthesizing diamond."

Audiatec, founded in 2015, uses the CVD method (chemical vapor deposition) to synthesize diamond in monocrystalline form on disks with a diameter of up to 100mm.

Diamond Foundry, a Silicon Valley startup valued at $1.8bn, announced plans in April to open a second factory abroad as it ramps up production.
