Lucapa Mines Record Volumes During Q1
April 19, 23(IDEX Online) - Lucapa says it mined record volumes at its Lulo alluvial mine, in Angola, and the Mothae mine, in Lesotho, in its latest quarterly report.
The Australian miner also says it recovered a 150-carat Type IIa D-color white diamond - the 36th +100-carat diamond (pictured) since Lulo began commercial production in 2015.
It also recovered two other +100-carat diamonds at the mine, which is home to some of the largest recorded diamonds recovered in Angola.
A total of 7,162 carats from Lulo were sold during Q1 (ended 31 March), an increase of 175 per cent on the same period in 2022. Price per carat dropped 36 per cent to $1,759.
Sales from Mothae fell 25 per cent to 6,315 carats, but the per carat price rose 28 per cent to $887.
"The mining and exploration programs performed exceptionally well with more records being achieved in the first quarter of 2023," said managing director, Stephen Wetherall.
