AWDC Appoints Interim CEO after Epstein Quits
April 16, 24(IDEX Online) - The Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) has appointed Karen Rentmeesters as interim CEO following the sudden resignation of Ari Epstein last week.
She will serve until a permanent CEO is appointed, AWDC said in a statement yesterday (15 April).
Rentmeesters, who is currently chief officer PR and industry relations, said she was honored to take on the role.
"I will do everything in my power to continue Ari Epstein's good work while providing the necessary peace of mind," she said.
"This is in anticipation of the arrival of a new, permanent CEO. The entire diamond industry is in the midst of a period of transformation towards greater transparency and faces challenging times."
Her predecessor gave no reason for his departure after 13 years at the helm. It followed the introduction of G7 sanctions last month, which prompted an angry reaction from the city's traders.
"To fill the position of ad interim CEO, we deliberately chose someone with extensive experience in and knowledge of the diamond industry, a large network, and the necessary expertise," said Isidor Morsel, chairman of AWDC's board of directors.
"We are confident that Karen will take on this role with great enthusiasm and that, while waiting for a permanent CEO, she will flawlessly guide AWDC through its ongoing dossiers."
