Sanctions: New AWDC Bosses Call for More Entry Points
July 06, 24(IDEX Online) - The newly-appointed president and vice-president of the AWDC (Antwerp World Diamond Centre) board of directors are jointly calling for more verification nodes - in addition to Antwerp - to ensure that sanctions on Russian diamonds are fully implemented.
The plea come from Isidore (Isi) Morsel, CEO of Dali Diamonds, who has been confirmed as president of the AWDC board of directors at AWDC after last month's elections (he took over after his predecessor David Gotlib resigned suddenly and without explanation last September). And from Ravi Bhansali, managing director of Rosy Blue, who will serve as vice-president.
In a joint press release they both stress the importance of the establishment of multiple rough diamond verification nodes, saying: "We believe that this approach is both feasible and fair, promoting unity and shared responsibility among all stakeholders.
"According to them, this concept will enable and empower the timely and effective integration of major African producing and polishing countries into this new global reality."
They say there should be verification nodes in diamond-producing countries which play a pivotal role in ensuring the diamond supply chain meets the highest standards of ethical and sustainable trade.
