Another Large Gang Attack on a California Jeweler
July 14, 24
(IDEX Online) - A gang of "seven or eight" robbers armed with sledgehammers struck at a jewelry store in California, USA, and made off with $500,000 of merchandise.
They smashed display cases and threatened staff and customers with firearms at Bombay Jewelry Company, in Berkeley, according to local police.
The attack is at least the third of its kind in recent months, involving a large gang targeting an Indian jewelry store in California.
On 12 June, an estimated 20 hammer-wielding robbers ransacked another Indian jewelry store, PNG Jewelers, in Sunnyvale.
And in May around 15 raiders fled with gold and diamond jewelry, along with several Rolex watches at Bhindi Jewelers in Fremont.
Berkeley Police Department said that in the latest attack, the perpetrators "used sledgehammers to break display cases and brandished firearms to threaten and control the staff and customers."
