Faberge Launches 007 Ruby Surprise
October 21, 24(IDEX Online) - Faberge has launched a second, more affordable, piece in its James Bond-themed 007 collection.
The 18k yellow gold locket marks the 60th anniversary of Goldfinger and is designed as an egg-shaped Fort Knox gold depository safe, with a ruby hidden inside.
The Fabergé x 007 Goldfinger Egg Safe Locket with Ruby Heart Surprise is available to order now, for January delivery, priced $18,900.
The first piece in the collection, a limited edition Octopussy-themed egg, was decorated with 180 round brilliant cut white diamonds and sold for $145,000.
The new Egg Safe Locket opens to reveal a heart-shaped ruby from Gemfields' Montepuez mine, in Mozambique.
"This is the first time Faberge has created an egg surprise locket which opens in this fashion," the company says.
"The ruby heart nestled inside is dripping in gold and represents Goldfinger's passion for gold and is a reference to the title song lyrics 'He loves only gold'."
The size of the ruby is not disclosed. In its product details Faberge says, likely in error: "1 Gemfields Heart Shaped Mozambique Ruby Total Weight 0.00ct."
The Faberge brand, which dates back to Gustav Faberge in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1842, was acquired by UK-based gemstone miner Gemfields in 2013.
