Indian Thieves Rob Surat Diamond Broker at Gunpoint
February 17, 04In another case of daylight robbery, a man working as a diamond broker was robbed of $160,000 worth of gems by five attackers in Surat yesterday (Monday).
Local police alerted other police stations in the Surat area following the incident but so far there is no clue to the robbers’ identity or their whereabouts.
In the incident, five armed assailants attacked the broker using wooden planks and then at gunpoint snatched the suitcase containing the diamonds.
The police said that the agent believes the robbers monitored his movements for some time before attacking him.
The latest attack follows the arrest by Surat police last month of 12 men suspected of taking part in a $120,000 diamond heist last October which followed a series of diamond and jewelry thefts last year.
